Yep. I’m a believer as well. Had a hood on, too, but no damage to it. I’ve read articles decrying putting ‘extra’ glass on lenses claiming quality is degraded, but have also seen actual tests that debunks those ideas. And having taken photos in adverse conditions (e.g., rain), I’m much happier to wipe/clean a filter than the front lens element!

Thank God you were using a filter. I’ve broken at least two. I see too many people with no filter and no lens hood. I’ve broken a hood as well.

my camera has a wrist strap which I wear in case it falls, having dropped and destroyed a previous camera in Istanbul…
